DIY'ing is not always the best way to save money, especially if you're thinking of DIY'ing things you've never done before or something (like fresh flower centerpieces) that need to be done in a timeframe. Because the days leading up to your wedding are going to be more chaotic than you can even imagine.
The best DIY projects are things that can be done way ahead of time are not especially vital to your wedding's success; cute signs that no one will miss, rubber stamped cocktail napkins, glitter trimmed shoes, wedding programs (which you seriously do not need at all.....)
Don't forget that every time you have to redo a project or change directions, it costs you money and time. With the help of my best friend, I hand watercolored my invites. If you added up all the Champagne I bought as bribery, I'm sure I could have just ordered them at half the cost....
And some DIY's (like catering and cakes) are not only down right dangerous but may not even be allowed into your venue. It's worth a little research before you go down that path.
