Which is why I'm a little late with Money Monday! I'm doing my taxes, and I'm sure you're at least THINKING about yours! Did you know that there are expenses related to a wedding that are tax deductable? (Always ask your accountant, but hey, it's worth a try, right?) It's worth thinking about them as you plan your wedding ceremony and reception. (many thanks to several blogs, including Turbo Tax, for these ideas.
1. Venues; if you're using a church, museum, historic site, aquarium, national park or college, ask them if a portion of the expenses are considered a donation.
2. Leftover flowers and food donated to homeless shelters or similar non profits can be deducted WITH a receipt. (Check out Repeat Roses for help with this one.
3. Donate your gown to one of the many organizations that gift them to military spouses, donate your bridesmaids dresses to one of the organizations that provides prom dresses for girls who need them.
4. Ditch the favors and donate the money to charity. This is best done in private. It's pretty impossible to find a charity that everyone agrees with, either because of the cause or because of the administration. Make sure your chosen fund is an efficient one. Charity Navigator is a great site that rates charities
