Jane and Michael share many, many things and one thing they particularly love to share is tequila (you might find a bit at the reception!) Tequila is, of course, a cultural symbol, but its significance extends beyond its status as a delicious beverage. The Aztecs viewed the intoxicating effects of tequila as a gift bestowed by the Gods, a beverage only available to the royalty and aristocrats. And it is traditionally served with two accoutrements (or ‘training wheels’ in popular slang!) Salt, a precious commodity associated with wealth and believed, to repel evil, and lemon which are the fruit of a tree that has long symbolized friendship, love and longevity.
There are two types of tequila, the plata is harsher and often have a bite or sting to them, while the añejo is smoother, and more complex. So too will the days of your marriage be, some harsh with a bite or sting of sadness, while others will be smooth and bring joy
I invite you now to share a drink of tequila, as you pledge to walk together through both the plata and añejo days of marriage, as we who are here wish for you the Godly gifts of wealth, friendship, love and longevity.
